What would a torturous pest look like?

This:
Sand flies make it "challenging" to enjoy life on the Western coast of New Zealand. If Pheonix so chooses she can comment on how calm and collected I've been despite the DOZENS of bites I have on my feet, ankles, legs, and other butt-like places that are exposed when peeing in the woods.
I hate sandflies and they hate me - but they are winning the war!
AAAARRRRGGGGG!

Yeah, sure...Katie is calm and collected. If by "calm and collected" you mean: waking up in the middle of the night writhing and moaning, scratching continuously, obsessively charting any changes in the itchy bumps, throwing tantrums and stomping her feet in the middle of the sidewalk, then sure, she's handling it like a champ.
Funny she got so many bites, seeing as how she took absolutely no preventative measures...hiking in sandals, shorts, no bug spray. I like her Dad's idea: wearing flea collars around her ankles.

man, i hope you're not expecting pity for getting all these bites while HIKING and going to the BEACH in the SUMMER! cuz, guess what? it's still winter and it's still raining in the PNW and it will be til you get back. but smooches nonetheless. put on some frickin' bug spray.
